Below is information that may find useful regarding the Lee County which the BERT referendum will be on the ballots for Bonita Springs residents. Although the election date is scheduled for August 18th, 2026 for those voting in-person, there are other methods of voting that have deadlines associated with them.

Registering to Vote
You must be registered to vote to be able to cast your ballot for the BERT referendum. The registration deadline is July 20th, 2026 to be able to vote in the August 18th election.

Vote-by-Mail Requests
Everyone wishing to vote by mail MUST request a mail-in ballot, even if you’ve voted by mail in past elections. This is because of a new Florida statue that requires mail-in-ballot requests to be purged after each election. The deadline for vote by mail requests is August 6th, 2026, but our recommendation is to request your ballot much earlier than that to ensure it arrives on time. The safe date for mailing your ballot is August 11th, 2026, but again our recommendation is to mail your ballot much earlier than that if you want it to count.

Unaffiliated Voters
All registered voters may vote during the Primary, even if registered as unaffiliated. This means the BERT referendum will be on the ballot for all registered voters regardless of their affiliation.
